Gwendolyn is our 15 year old daughter, who was diagnosed with a genetic disease called Cystic Fibrosis at 6 months old. We are participating in the Great Strides Walk on May 17th. Please help us reach our goal of raising $2000 to raise awareness and help find a cure.
Our fourth child, Gwen, was born in 1998, and within 6 months was diagnosed inexplicably with failure to thrive. This led to a daunting discovery that our baby girl
had something called Cystic Fibrosis. What is Cystic Fibrosis? We soon found out exactly what a monster it is. We discovered that we as parents had actually passed
this inherited disease on to our daughter. We were CF carriers. We learned that CF is considered a secretory glands disease that affects the glands that make mucus
and sweat like the lungs, pancreas, liver, intestines, and sinuses. One of the major complications of CF is that it causes your mucus to become abnormally thick and
very sticky. It builds up in your lungs and blocks your airways making it difficult to breath. This build-up of mucus is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria to
grow. Over time this leads to repeated serious lung infections. Constant infections create scar tissue which decrease the ability of your lungs to function
normally. That's just the lungs! The same devastating results happen to the pancreas, liver, intestines, etc. Gwen not only suffers with Cystic Fibrosis but has also been diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis related Diabetes (CFRD). You can start to appreciate why we call it a monster and why it's important to continually raise awareness and raise funds to continue the search for a cure. That's why we've created this fundraiser to fund our commitment to Great Strides 2014. On Saturday, May 17th our family will be committed to walking at the Reading, PA Great Strides event. Show your support and order a T-Shirt today! It's only $20 plus a small shipping fee. My family and I appreciate your love, help and support.
