About this campaign
We need your help to make our vision a reality!
Starting Monday, June 3rd, your purchase can help fund a one-of-a-kind event to welcome refugees to Salt Lake City.
This August, we are hosting the first-ever Salt Lake City Refugee Fair, an event that will celebrate the cultures of refugees, connect them to resources in their host community (SLC, UT), and create an opportunity for both communities to come together in new ways.
Ultimately, this event will be invaluable, but right now, there are very real costs associated with organizing something of this scale. Costs include obtaining permits, reserving equipment and a venue, public outreach, and more. We thank you for your purchase and assure you that all funds will benefit this incredible event and the people it hopes to serve!
Volunteers and refugees will match on a one to one basis to get to know one another and share a connection that will last beyond the event. We will also showcase the cultures of refugees and their stories.
We are excited about the specific ways we plan on achieving that goal, but for the sake of brevity, we'll simply explain some of the elements we will include:
On one side of the fair, we will feature community resources and vendors from the Salt Lake City region. IE housing, employment opportunities, healthcare, English classes, educational programs, local food trucks, and child care programs, to name a few.
The other side of the fair will include a progression from a representation of the reasons refugees were forced to flee, to a celebration and explanation of their homeland's faith, music, food, and more.
At the end of the fair, both sides will merge to represent symbolically, and literally, how both communities are enriched by the other.
In this way, volunteers, donors, and vendors will help introduce refugees to the SLC area and, in turn, refugees will be able to tell their story and facilitate an open, compassion-centric conversation about their similarities and differences.
So, join us, and be part of something bigger! Welcome Salt Lake City's newest neighbors by sending the message that everyone deserves to feel safe at home.
