Funds raised will go toward travel, teaching, and training expenses for our instructors. Any funds in excess of our goal will go into a charity fund for first responders in need.
A few years ago VFRSS co-founders, Ben and Sarah Thompson realized there was a severe lack of mental health training and services for first responders. Ben's numerous years as a firefighter coupled with Sarah's experience as a mental health counselor lead to the development of a non-profit organization to address the need for additional services within the first responder community.
Virginia First Responder Support Services (VFRSS) was officially established in April 2017 and aims to provide group training for mental health related issues for first responders including classes on trauma, depression, anxiety, family relationships, and suicide. A 2-Day Peer Support class teaches departments how to build and maintain their own peer support program. These trainings are available for ALL first responders including fire fighters, police officers, EMS workers, and dispatchers! Now that the organization is starting to grow, so are our expenses for training and traveling, which is why we need YOUR help!
