About this campaign

Purchasing a T-Shirt not only shows your Chimalsi pride at our competitions, but financially supports the team as well! We need to make it back to Atlanta, Georgia!

The Chimalsi Steppers began in 2008 as an after school activity. Mrs. Brandi Langhorn, Jaela, Elijahnae, and Ondia would choreograph steps for fun and received the opportunity to perform them at a school assembly. The following year, many girls became interested in joining and a team of 27 2nd and 3rd graders was formed and the name Chimalsi (chee-mah-si), meaning “young and proud”, was chosen to represent the team. Today, the Chimalsi Steppers has grown to an over 75-member team ranging from 2nd to 5th grade. It has even grown to have its very own competing Middle School Team! Participants have grown from performing at school-wide events, to creating a name for themselves in the Albany community. They have performed at various local events such as the Harlem Globetrotters' halftime show, the Palace Theater's Black History Month Step Show, and the 4th of July Extravaganza at Empire Plaza to name a few. Recently, the Chimalsi Steppers Middle School team's biggest accomplishment was competing in the National Step League's National Competition. They were up against teams from all over the United States and placed 4th in the middle school division! Their continued success has been credited to the young ladies who are very dedicated to practicing three days a week after school, their supportive parents, and a loving school family. This year, we are trying to make it back to nationals!! Our upcoming competition on May 20, 2017 will determine if we make the finals! Our babies have been diligently working towards their goals. Purchasing a T-Shirt not only shows your Chimalsi pride at our competitions, but financially supports our movement as well! Thank you for all of your help!
