About this campaign
The Model Minority myth is pervasive. It does real damage. It ignores the diversity of Asian cultures and perpetuates the belief that Asian Americans are forever foreigners. It erases the differences amongst Asian cultures. Most importantly, it is harmful to the struggle for racial justice.
The Model Minority myth was first introduced by a Caucasian sociologist in the 1960's to explain why Asians were not a "problem minority", creating a hierarchy in which Asian people are often represented at the top. Historically, this myth has been used as evidence to deny or downplay the impact of racism and discrimination towards people of color in the United States. Given the history of that impact on Black Americans particularly, the myth is ultimately a means to perpetuate anti-Blackness.
Since then, it's been used over and over again to pit people of color against one another. By putting people of color in competition with one another, the myth distracts us from striving together toward liberation for all.
This damaging myth perpetuates racism amongst minorities and empowers White Supremacy.
Let’s destroy this myth together.

100% of the profits from this fundraiser will go to the following AAPI community organizations:
Heart of Dinner: https://heartofdinner.org
Founded at the onset of COVID-19, Heart of Dinner works to fight food insecurity and isolation experienced by Asian American seniors—two long-standing community issues heightened by the pandemic. Heart of Dinner now serves 1,500+ elders in Lower Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens, delivering weekly hot lunches, fresh produce, and bulk ingredients while supporting local small businesses during their COVID-related recovery process.
Chinese for Affirmative Action: https://caasf.org/
Together with Asian Pacific Planning and Policy Council (A3PCON) and the Asian American Studies Department of San Francisco State University, CAA launched the Stop AAPI Hate reporting center on March 19, 2020. The center tracks and responds to incidents of hate, violence, harassment, discrimination, shunning, and child bullying against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders throughout the United States.
Victims and Survivors Fund, San Francisco: https://www.gofundme.com/f/sf-api-victims-and-survivors-assistance-fund
