About this campaign

Will you support strong women?

From the time of her diagnosis in 2011, my sister, Charlotte, leaned on the support of two Baltimore-area charitable organizations: the Susan Cohan Colon Cancer Foundation and the Ulman Foundation. Inspired by her fight and strength, I made it my mission to raise money for these organizations.

In 2012, Fivex3 Training hosted its first Charm City Strongwoman Contest as a fundraiser for the Susan Cohan Colon Cancer Foundation. Five years later, following the death of that organization’s founder and the charity’s subsequent dissolution, I redirected the fundraising efforts of the contest to benefit the Ulman Foundation. Since 1997, Ulman has been dedicated to providing support specifically for young people with cancer, like my sister, and their families.

In 2018, I committed to a five-year fundraising goal of $100,000 for the Ulman House. Located in East Baltimore, just blocks from Johns Hopkins Hospital, the Ulman House opened in January 2019, offering beautiful, comfortable, completely free living spaces for young adults who are in Baltimore for cancer treatment at our city’s world-renowned medical facilities. These young patients, along with their caregivers, are able to stay in one of nine private suites while enjoying group and individual programming including art therapy, physical exercise, meditation, home-cooked meals, support groups, and an incredible music room. It is a truly stunning facility.

In 2018 and 2019, the contest raised a total of over $50,000, over our goal of $20,000 each year. In 2020, in the midst of a pandemic, we held a scaled-back contest that still raised more than $8,000. In 2021, we were back on track with our goal and raised over $20,000 again! 2022 will be our final year of our five year goal, and we know we will reach this number with your help as we celebrate our 11th Annual Charm City Strongwoman Contest.

The contest will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2022, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Fivex3 Training, located at 4015 Foster Ave. in Baltimore’s Brewer’s Hill neighborhood. We are offering sponsorship opportunities in four tiers listed on the following page, some of which include a tax deduction. Past sponsors of the contest include East Coast Gold Weightlifting, The Goddard Companies, Hoffman and Associates, H&S Bakery, Teavolve, and many other small businesses and organizations.

The Ulman Foundation will benefit tremendously from your generosity. On behalf of all our strong women and young people fighting cancer and their families, thank you for considering this request.

The Ulman Foundation Ulman Foundation is a non-profit whose mission is a simple, yet impactful one: “We change lives by creating a community of support for young adults, and their loved ones, impacted by cancer.” All of the funds raised go directly back to supporting their mission by providing the best community for these young adults. Being a part of the Baltimore community myself, I feel particularly connected to their mission. Their Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Patient Navigators address topics that all patients should be aware of while undergoing treatment. Ulman also offers free housing for patients and caregivers via the new Ulman House and awards over 30 scholarships each year to young adults impacted by cancer, among other programs.

The generosity of donors like you make all this support possible! Please help me support this amazing cause and furthering Ulman’s mission today!
