I'm pedaling for affordable housing with Bike and Build this summer! My trip is 4000 miles and my fundraising goal is $4500! Help fund our building projects across our Northern US route, and show your support with this t-shirt designed by me. I'll pledge to donate an additional $4 for each t-shirt you buy.
Hi! Jamie Yannayon here, a 23 year old from Raleigh, NC. I am all about biking, traveling, tap dancing, northern Europe, group projects, and all types of cheese. Recently, I graduated from NC State University in Raleigh, NC, where I studied industrial and systems engineering. I spend most of my time reading, thinking, and talking about urban bicycle infrastructure, public health policy, and indie music. I am always scoping out my next city to visit, bike route to explore, and live music concert to attend!
I am excited for a summer of Bike & Build because of the promise of constant adventure, service, and teamwork. My bicycle has always been an important item in my life for both transportation and for fun rides with friends. After spending four months living and studying in Copenhagen, Denmark, I have been more engaged in bicycling around Raleigh and making sure I have a bicycle to ride when I travel to other places too. So far, I can claim rides on mountain bikes, road bikes, a bike with flat tires, a bike with a missing pedal, a bike with snow tires, a truck bike, a bike on a ferry, and my very own shared-custody tandem bike (named Bella). I have had a cross-country bike trip on my mind and Bike & Build seems like the best way to do it, with a great group and for a great cause.
Over the past years as an undergraduate, I have learned about some of the affordable housing issues in my area and heard about quite a few NC State students who have done Bike & Build trips. The more I learned about it, the more I felt drawn to understand and contribute to Bike & Build's affordable housing effort firsthand. I have participated in Habitat for Humanity's Shack-a-Thon fundraiser at NC State and on a build site in downtown Raleigh. I think this service model for decent, sustainable, affordable housing is an important solution to homelessness as well as other related social and health issues that many people face today. I want to be a part of the solution that eases the most amount of hardship, and affordable housing is surely a great start.
I am ready to put the pedal to the metal across this expansive country and lend my hands to communities in need!

Supporters
Cycling brings out the best in people ... and so many have so many good causes to support.
It's a fantastic opportunity for bikers to set a significant goal and complete a physical challenge, contribute to affordable housing, and get an unparalleled view of the US, East Coast to West Coast.
Because it's a great cause and Jamie is my amazing niece!
Jamie rocks!
We are supporting or niece because not only is she going to ride a ton of miles she is also going to make the world a better place to live in. If you ask her parents they would say she already does (both).
