Help Send Kaitlyn to Denmark

What is a dream? According to the Merriam Webster, a dream is a strongly desired goal or purpose, but for me it means so much more. A dream in my eyes is life, it is the motivation behind everything I do. I would do anything in the world to turn my dreams into reality! For quite some time now I have had an enormous dream, a dream to travel the world. In six or so months I am prepared to make my dream become a reality through the Menard County Rotary Club. Personally, this foreign exchange opportunity gives me purpose and life. To be able to experience other cultures and to begin to understand the world around me a little bit at a time is the most valuable thing a person could learn. Personally, I only get to see little bitty Petersburg, Illinois on a regular basis. It is the craziest thought ever, that I live in a world with over 7 billion people and I only see about 2,000 of them in my hometown. I live in such a big world, yet I only see a tiny portion of it. I pride myself on being open minded and being able to take on any challenges that await me, which is why I am lucky enough to say that I will be spending my senior year in Denmark! Ever since I can remember, I’ve always wanted to help people and change the world. All the way from helping someone study for a test, to running and getting the nurse when my friend was having an asthma attack, I have been there. I believe that in order to help someone you have to first understand the person. After I graduate high school I plan on pursuing a career in anesthesiology. I know that this exchange opportunity will allow me to reach even further in my career, help me to understand the people around me a lot clearer, and help me one step at a time change the world. Harriet Tubman once said “Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience and the passion to reach for the stars and to change the world”. These are words I live by every day when I put my heart and soul into everything I do. I know that foreign exchange is what I was destined to do and that I will only build from here as an ambassador and as a self motivated learner and motivaor.
