International Raccoon Appreciation Day 2024

About this campaign

International Raccoon Appreciation Day aims to celebrate raccoons and all different animals commonly thought of as pests. To celebrate International Raccoon Appreciation Day this year we have created a t-shirt to honor these curious creatures. Raccoons are a species that are sometimes misunderstood. Often seen as a nuisance, these intelligent and important creatures have earned a bad rep. We are aiming to get people excited and curious about raccoons and shed a positive light on this valuable species. Funds from this campaign go towards supporting our residents here at the Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary!

Our two resident raccoons at the Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary have stories that help educate our visitors on how we can lessen our impact on local wildlife. After being hit by a car as a young raccoon, Meeka, lost her back right leg and was brought to the Sanctuary for lifelong care. Meeka's roommate, Cooper, was raised by people in the early years of his life and became too habituated to people to be releasable. Cooper and Meeka are both 8 years old and enjoy playing with different textures, solving puzzle feeder toys, and spending time with our staff.
