Stage Style: Elmwood Gear Fundraiser

Elmwood Community Playhouse, provides a local, intimate setting for live theatre– a place to share the stories that connect our lives. A non-profit theater that traces its roots back to a colorful array of thespian groups like the Curtain Callers, Nyack Players, and Camp Shanks Players, each contributing to the vibrant tapestry of what would later emerge as what we know now as Elmwood Playhouse.

In 1950, a stroke of fate beckoned when the opportunity arose to acquire the old St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Park Street in Nyack. Snatching it up in 1957, we renamed ourselves Elmwood Community Playhouse and breathed new life into the sacred space. Our inaugural production, ‘Bus Stop’, marked a triumphant debut on December 5, 1958, igniting a legacy that continues to shine brightly on the theatrical stage.

Since that time Elmwood Playhouse has been a staple in the community producing close to 450 main-stage productions, including musicals, plays, and original world-premiere shows. Over the years we have offered performing arts classes for children and tutored many through our technical production mentoring program. We also stage workshops and readings monthly.
