About this campaign

Hours before he was scheduled to be euthanized at a municipal shelter, Linus, a seven -month-old kitten, was rescued by Furrever Friends Rescue & Volunteers, Inc., a no-kill non-profitcat rescue. Though Linus’s warm personality and friendly demeanor could charm even the coldest of hearts, it was his medical condition that landed him on the shelter’s euthanasia list. Because the shelter lacked the resources to diagnose and effectively treat his condition - a stricture in his colon -Linus’s fate was sealed. Or so it seemed until a local rescuer contacted Furrever Friends for help and we sprang into action, contacting the shelter to arrange the “pull” and setting up an appointment with our veterinarian, and, ultimately,a specialistwho determined that Linus's condition required surgical intervention.

Linus-300x225jpgLinus, thesweet and goofy little kitten who was only hours away from being euthanized at a municipal shelter, was immediately whisked from the shelterby a Furrever Friendsboard member to Delaware Valley Veterinary Hospital. Though Linus was safe fromeuthanasia, he was not out of the woods. Because Linus's condition prevented him from moving his bowels on his own, he needed immediate veterinary evaluation and treatment. In the days and weeks following Linus's rescue, he underwent a number of diagnostic procedures and medical treatments. Through all of this, Linus purred, snuggled, and demanded attention; it was clear he wasn’t ready to give up. When it was determined that something more than medical treatment was necessary, Linus went to see Dr. Bentley, a soft tissuespecialist at Ryan Veterinary Hospital. After several more rounds of poking and prodding and diagnostics tests, through which Linus continued to purr,Dr. Bentley recommended surgery to repair the stricture. The surgery, the outcome of which would determine if Linus could live a normal healthy life, was estimated to cost between $3000and $3500, and this does not include the cost of Linus's treatment at Delaware Veterinary Hospital prior to being transferred to the specialists at Ryan. Because Furrever Friends relies 100%on private donations, it was with great care and thought that we made the decision to move forward with what we knew was the only option for Linus.

We are very happy to report that on May 22, Linus underwent surgical repair of the stricture, and is now recovering in his foster home. Although the surgery was successful and Linus is on the way to recovery, hismedical issuesnecessitate ongoing veterinary care to ensure he continues to thrive and stay healthy. To date, the cost of Linus's careis close to$3000. In order to continue to help Linus and cats like him get the urgent medical attention that they need, it is vital that we raise the funds required to cover the cost of his surgery and pre and post operativeveterinary care. Update: Linus had a visit to Ryan vet hospital last Friday, June 6th,to get his stitches removed. He did great and will not need any further follow-up visits! When you look at the picture of Linus at the top pf the page, which is from only a couple of months ago when he was at his sickest, and the picture of him below at the vet on Friday, the transformation is amazing! Thank YOUfor making it possible for Furrever Friends to help Linus and kitties like him!Linus at the vetjpg
