End Dog Fighting

Bowie came from a small rural shelter in Georgia, where he came in as a stray… and a suspected bait dog. The scars on his face, head and legs tell his story. It makes us cry, thinking of what he was forced to endure in his life before either escaping or being dumped because he wasn't "useful" anymore. Either way, he ended up at the shelter.

This is, unfortunately, the story of many dogs, and not all of their stories end like Bowie’s. Bowie came to the shelter heartworm positive (like a lot of Southern dogs), and went through fast-kill treatment. He was boarded while recuperating, then transported to a foster in South Carolina. Finally he was transported to our rescue in PA! Bowie is now in his forever home, and he is, by far, one of the lucky ones.

Dog-fighting is happening all over the United States. It’s considered a “sport," and draws people with money to burn, betting on which dog can brutally end the other. Those of us who care will never understand how “humans” can stand by and watch two dogs viciously fight, many times, to the death. We will never understand how those dogs can go through that and still love & trust the “humans” who make them fight. The love and loyalty shown by these Pit Bull type dogs is so unconditional and strong that it's used to turn them into killing machines, just for sheer entertainment and profit.
