About this campaign

These shirts not only help cats, they help the environment. We've chosen Hanes Eco Smart shirts, which are made from recycled plastic water bottles (but they're still soft and comfy). Please note, shirts won't ship until after the two-week campaign ends.

OUR STORY
Among the woods and farm fields in Tioga County, Pennsylvania, live thousands of stray and free-roaming cats. They fight for survival, for food and being unaltered, to breed. They succumb to disease, starvation and injuries. When one dies, however, a new unaltered cat moves in.
Private citizens have used their own funds to care for colonies around the county and TNR (trap, neuter, return). Local animal rescues have secured grants to TNR a fixed number of cats in certain areas. Those programs can only handle a certain number of cats, so there's never been a real end in sight to the county's stray cat problem...until now.
The Elkland Cat Project, a joint venture between Second Chance Animal Sanctuaries and Elkland Borough, relies on donations and time from residents who want to help the cats and the community. Unlike grants, there’s no limit to the amount of money that can be raised or the number of cats that can be helped (our hope is all of them ).
The project is so much more than TNR. It provides education, resources and community engagement. It aims to change people's thoughts about the cat population, the most effective way to deal with it and what to do if you're caring for stray cats.
The small borough of Elkand has one of the highest populations of stray and free-roaming cats in the county, so starting there was crucial. Once we’re successful in Elkland, it’s our hope to open the program up to other locations, or that other boroughs will start their own citizen-powered program.
