Normal is a Myth- Let's Celebrate Differences!

Growing up with the neurological disability cerebral palsy (CP) I felt embarrassed about being different. All I wanted involved blending in and enjoying the comfort "normalcy" brings. By the time I graduated high school though, that approach to life left me with many regrets. So in college I learned to become more outgoing about my CP, eventually embracing the disability as a part of who I am.

After graduating college I started working as a freelance writer. Thanks to some clients with disability themed websites my freelance writing endeavors shortly evolved into disability advocacy efforts. The more involved with disability advocacy I became, the more apparent a certain truth stood. "Normal" is a myth! We all have differences. If we are all different, "normal" cannot exist. Instead of looking at our differences negatively, we should find reasons to celebrate them. The time for timidly blending in is over. It is time to proudly blend out!
