We were expecting our 2nd baby ten years ago. We were over the moon excited. Like many couples, we experienced infertility until our prayers were answered. It was the perfect pregnancy. Near my due date in October, my water broke and we made our way to the hospital. The nurses made the preparations for the baby's arrival. As the nurses searched for a heartbeat, I could see the worry and anguish in their faces. Finally, the nurse looked at me and in the kindest voice, she said "I am so sorry". We continued to have hope that she was wrong and patiently waited for my doctor to arrive. When she did, she quickly performed an ultrasound. Our fears were confirmed. Nothing. Immediately, hope was replaced with grief followed by grief and shame. The worst was yet to come. Five short hours later, the most beautiful baby was born into heaven. The room was silent as they carried our baby from the room. There was no sound other than the footsteps of the doctor that gently carried him. Soon, they brought him back to us to say our goodbyes. We held and loved him as long as we could and I am thankful for the time we had, but it wasn't enough.
