About this campaign

Who:
My name is April McCambridge and I am a first time IVHQ volunteer. I am an avid nature lover and volunteer for the homeless shelter in my local community.

Where:
Ubud Bali, Indonesia (Green Lion Bali)

Why:
This is something I am extremely passionate about. I feel it is vital to insill a passio for natre at a youn age so hildren an learntheir impacton our envirnment as wel as gain thesame respectfor the flor and faua that theirancestors have long protected.

What:
International Volunteer Headquarters runs a program in Bali.

Bali is well known for its astonishing beauty and greenery. Unfortunately, with rapid development and the rise in tourism, it is evident in certain areas the detrimental impact this has had on the local environment. Plastic water bottles and plastic food wrappers are of great concern and you will often see people simply throwing these on the ground, as food in Bali was traditionally wrapped in biodegradable banana leaves.

The relationship between humans and the environment is an important part of Balinese culture and the aim of this project is to instill environmental education in the children at a young age, imparting my message in a fun and dynamic manner.

The emphasis is on “hands on” techniques – getting the children out and about in nature and working together.

While I am there, activities will include cleaning up the local school, village and rivers, educating children about recycling and much and instilling the importance of restoring the beauty of the land to preserve it for future generations as their elders have done.

Each morning I will plan my campaign and visit a variety of schools around the Ubud area in the afternoon.

When:
My volunteer date is May 1st-28th, 2017

I am looking to have the trip fundraised as soon as January 2017 so I may begin searching and booking a flight well in advance, pay the remainder of the program fee and begin purchasing supplies for the children.
