About this campaign
(Important: We've learned the garment Size Guides aren't displaying correctly in some phone apps. I've screenshot those and placed each of them at the very bottom of our page here. Sorry! Please contact me or Shivani if you still can't find or read them. Now on with the show...)
Kura's Pride (KP) launched in 2019 to stand beside Warrior Watch, Lion Kids Camp, and Mama Simba as another vital community-focused program under the Ewaso Lions (EL) conservation umbrella. Shortly after we last convened for a t-shirt campaign (April 2020), still in its infancy, KP was responsible for 1236 free vaccinations of dogs, cats, camels, and donkeys in the Samburu area of northern Kenya.
That vaccination number now exceeds 6000.
The goal was—and still is—to promote domestic dog health, and to quash rabies and canine distemper so those diseases don't jump to humans, domestic animals, or wild carnivores. Yes, despite the name, lions and leopards (felines) can catch and carry canine distemper.
Now as the sun sets on 2022, KP is an entirely different animal: faster, stronger, better! The original mission stands, but leading that charge is a dedicated, in-camp team of veterinarian, Dr. Jessicah Kurere, and Kura's Pride officer, Solomon Lenasalia. They're in the local villages daily, providing not just vaccinations, but also spay/neuter services, emergency response, and follow-up care.
Camel attacked by lions? Call EL to patch-up the camel and track the movements of nearby lions. Amazing little factoid: Her very first day on the job, Dr. Jessicah successfully treated such a camel—now that's immediate impact!
Sheep wounded by baboons? Call KP to help the sheep. [Call Kenya Wildlife Service with regards to the baboon.] These are everyday incidents in rural Kenya!
Dog injured by a snake's fang or warthog's tusk? Text Solomon. Call Dr. Jessicah. EL/KP services are local, and free, and expanding in their community coverage.
And YOU helped make it happen. You bought a t-shirt or a hoodie, and you wore it everywhere, fielding every question it generated among your circle. Now we need you to call that family, text those friends—let them know we are back, for a limited time only, and with a brand new selection of garments adorned with the Kura's Pride logo. GEAR UP.
Here are Kura (the inspiration), Dr. Shivani Bhalla (the founder and executive director of Ewaso Lions), and the aforementioned Dr. Jessicah Kurere and Solomon Lenasalia.

Donating 8 of these back to Ewaso Lions, to be sold at the next WCN Expo.
It’s an excellent cause, a great opportunity to educate the public, and the shirts are super cute!
I believe its important to help the animals I can. And I love the design!
After working to save lions for many years, Shivani recognized the need in local communities to vaccinate and treat pets which is beneficial to them, their owners and wildlife. Jess and Solomon have made this effort very successful.
Kura's Pride is a wonderful program of Ewaso Lions in Samburu, Kenya. Their Vet Jess and assistant Solomon provide rabies vaccines and other medical help to dogs, as well as to injured wildlife, helping build community support for wild lions!
