About this campaign
Engineer Jake Owen was a dedicated 25-year-old firefighter at Jarrell Fire & Rescue for 5 years. He fought a tough battle with brain cancer and passed away on October 2nd, 2023. This fundraiser is to support the funding of Jake's memorial that will be placed at his station, Fire Station 2, a place to honor his life, love, and legacy. This T-shirt was designed by Jake's brothers at Jarrell Fire & Rescue to help honor their fallen brother.
The meaning behind the shirt:
Jake was a huge fan of Marvel, which inspired the Marvel-like design on the front.
The gray ribbon that signifies supporting those who have passed, are battling, and have survived brain cancer, encapsulates 222, which was Jake's employee number. The purpose of Texas Fallen First Responders Awareness Month and Dress in Purple Day is to shine a spotlight on the sacrifices that first responders and their families make every day. Sometimes the sacrifice seems small, missed holidays or birthdays, long deployments away from home, and mandatory overtime to name a few. Sometimes the sacrifice is significant. Career-ending injuries or illnesses that side-lines a first responder are tragic. And, when a first responder dies in the line of duty the devastation to their family, their agency, and their community can last a lifetime. Our goal is to bring awareness to these sacrifices.
